LNG Ltd starts second train FEED
FOLLOWING closely behind yesterday’s Gorgon final investment decision, Liquefied Natural Gas Limited has announced it will start front-end engineering design studies for its second LNG train at Fisherman’s Landing in Gladstone.
LNG Limited managing director Maurice Brand said FEED on the first 1.5 million tonne per annum train, which is being carried out by SK Engineering & Construction and Laing O’Rourke, was nearing completion.
“We are confident that gas will be available for a second train during 2012-13, so it is logical that the company positions itself to take advantage of gas feedstock during that period with the commencement of the second train FEED.”
He added the second train would be based on the same design as the first train, ensuring the FEED could be completed in a much shorter time and at minimal cost.
The second train will share key infrastructure with the first train including LNG storage tanks, jetty and shiploading facilities, reducing development costs and increasing the overall economics of the project.
LNG Limited’s liquefaction technology was recently found to be technically sound and fit, while its decision to use membrane tanks for storage was approved by Queensland authorities subject to a number of conditions being in place.
The company, which will source its gas from coal seam gas producer Arrow Energy, is planning to start first LNG production in 2012.
