Icon, Red Sky snap up CSG permits

COAL seam gas hopefuls Icon Energy and Red Sky Energy have each been awarded a permit in the SuratBasin by the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy.

Icon Energy was awarded ATP 849, west of Roma, while Red Sky secured ATP 904 adjacent to the major CSG fields held by BG Group and the Origin Energy/ConocoPhillips Australian Pacific LNG venture.

Icon plans to drill two wells in its 4000 square kilometre permit as part of its current drilling program.

According to the company, the prospects in the permit lie west of BG’s Lacerta field and Bow Energy’s Don Juan field.

The company also said the permit has one of the largest sub-crops of Walloon Coal Measures and is relatively shallow at about 300m.

Icon is the operator of the permit and has an 80% interest. ATP 849 has been awarded for 12 years until August 2021.

Red Sky said ATP 904 forms part of the company’s agreement to acquire 100% of the issued capital of Cydonia Resources with the rights to earn an interest of up to 100% in two CSG permits, ATP 840 and 904.

ATP 840 was granted when the company made the announcement in July.

The two permits cover 1700sq.km and are near existing and planned gas infrastructure.
