Duo tuck in with Gladstone FEED

Fluor and Foster Wheeler have been awarded dual front-end engineering and design contracts for the upstream part of the Gladstone liquefied natural gas project in Queensland, Australia.

The project owned by Santos (60%) and Petronas (40%) involves the production of LNG using coalbed methane gas from onshore fields in the Bowen and Surat basins. The pair aim to kick off in 2014 with 3.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG production, and have the capacity for up to 10 million tpa.

Santos said today project progress in the quarter ended 30 June 2009 included the award of dual upstream FEED contracts to Fluor and Foster Wheeler. No other information was provided.

Santos said recently that, through the FEED process, it would be able "to develop reasonable engineering estimates of project cost. Santos will announce updated capital expenditure estimates following completion of upstream FEED".

Bechtel is the downstream (LNG) FEED contractor.
