Comet to launch Galilee CSG campaign

COMET Ridge has secured another coal seam gas exploration permit in Queensland’s Galilee Basin which will be explored in an eight-well drilling campaign next month.

The permit ATP 744 was granted following the successful negotiation of native title agreements and environmental approval, and lies adjacent to ATP 743 which was awarded to Comet last month.

The two permits have a total combined area of about 13,000 square kilometres and are located 500km northwest of Gladstone.

Managing director Tor McCaul said the award of ATP 744 allowed the company to roll out its upcoming Galilee exploration program with maximum flexibility across both blocks.

McCaul added that the company had recently finalised a drilling contract with Atlas Drilling and expected to start the exploration program next month.

The program is aimed at obtaining coal thickness and gas content values over a wide area of Comet’s portion of the eastern Galilee Basin to update the gas-in-place numbers ahead of any pilot production scheme.

According to technical work carried out by MBA Petroleum Consultants, the two blocks have potential gas-in-place of 36 trillion cubic feet.

Comet holds 100% of both ATP 744 and ATP 743.
