Bow sets Blackwater plans in place
BOW Energy has firmed up plans to certify proved and probable reserves at its Blackwater coal seam gas field in the Bowen Basin by drilling up to 12 wells.
The company will use the Depco rigs to drill up to nine appraisal wells and will also use a larger rig to drill three production test wells to determine proved reserves.
Bow said it was negotiating with contractors to drill the production test.
The company added it had been advised that 2P (proved and probable) reserves over an area in Blackwater may be certified if sufficient coal permeability could be demonstrated due to the high gas content in Blackwater.
As a result, the 2P appraisal program will focus on the shallower regions of the field where encouraging coal permeability had been encountered, and the company may test hydrofracs over selected coal intervals to determine if this method could increase permeability.
Meanwhile, the production test wells are designed to demonstrate the potential for commercial gas flow rates as well as test completion methods and where coal seams have low permeability, test permeability enhancement methods.
